Spheroidal Weathering

Geologicalterm. Rocks exposed to the surface are vulnerable to weathering due to thesharp edges and corners, which gradually become smooth, and eventually turnspherical. The temperature differs between rock surface and the interior due tothe diurnal temperature difference, these concentric layers peel off asconcentric shells much like the layers of a peeled onion due to effect ofheat-expansion and cold-contraction, and finally turn spherical. This processis called spheroidal weathering, which is a common geological phenomenon in thegranite area.
