When China began to implement the protection of geological relics?

China attaches great importance to the protection of geological relics. The work of the protection of geological relics began in the late 1970s, mostly as one of the protection content of the other types of nature reserves. Ministry of Land and Resources (formerly Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources) is responsible for the implementation of supervision and management. Before 1984, the work is just taken as a part of the protection content of other types of natural protection. After 1984, the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources began to carry out the research work in a planned way and organize the formulation of the planning and regulations, making the work into the right track, and promulgated the Provisions on the Establishment of Geological Nature Reserve in 1987 and The Regulations for the Protection of Geological Relics in 1995. Since 1985, after the establishment of the first national geological nature reserve -- "The Section of Middle upper Proterozoic Stratum" (Jixian, Tianjin), the development of the establishment of the geological heritage protection area has been quickened. Since the establishment of the Ministry of Land and Resources, it has organized the drafting of the approach to the management of the geological heritage, and held the relevant meeting to promote the progress of the work.
